The Electron Microscopy Center on the Indiana University Bloomington campus is a growing resource that currently houses several microscopes, with webpages dedicated to providing further information on each one.
Microscopes at the EMC
NOTE: The JEOL JSM 5800LV was retired in early December 2016, and sent to IU Kokomo. Anyone who needs the large sample chamber available on this SEM should contact Christian Chauret about using the instrument. For routine SEM work, contact Barry Stein about the use of the FEI Quanta 600F in the Nanoscale Characterization Facility or the Thermo-Fisher Teneo when it is not being used for SBFI.
NOTE2: The JEOL 3200FS (S)TEM was retired in January 2026. Since much of the information about how electron microscopes work was tied to the 3200FS webpage, those pages and links have been maintained. Start here to see that material.
