Outreach Efforts in 2022
Classes
- February
Undergraduate students in the L313 Cell Biology Laboratory class (organized by Judy Surzycki) learned to use the JEOL JEM 1010 to examine virus samples and saw demonstrations of the microtomes. - Z620 & B680 (Electron Microscopy, Spring Semester)
Barry Stein, Giovanni Gonzalez-Guitierrez and David Morgan taught an eight week graduate level course on biological electron microscopy. The course was held the second half of the spring semester and is designed so that students can take a separate eight week course on light microscopy (taught by Prof. Sid Shaw and Andras Kun).
Meetings
- July 31 - August 4
David Morgan and Jun Chen attended the 2022 Microscopy and Microanalysis (M&M) meeting in Portland, OR. - October 17 - 18
David Morgan attended the annual meeting of the Mid-West Association of Core Directors (MWACD) in Columbus, OH. MWACD is the midwest chapter of ABRF (the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities), an international organization that brings together administrators, directors and staff of core facilities involved in biological research at various universities, research institutes and companies. This year's annual meeting included tours of facilities at the Ohio State University and a reception in the nearby Center of Science and Industry (COSI).
